This one dates back to 2012. I was just starting out as an artist using digital techniques. Painters and art buyers would look at my work and say: that's interesting... what is it? Sometimes we need to break up the old views to make way for new!
Lila. Divine play, the dance of life and change, the rhythm of the universe. The dance is spontaneous, without intention, without consequence, free. Perspective means fooling your brain into reading a flat surface as a surface with depth. In other words, reading two dimensions as three. A new definition of perspective: Seeing lila (the dance of life and change) behind surface appearances. In other words, reading two dimensions as multidimensional. Seeing your own deeper mind. Camera. A sophisticated stick of charcoal. A tool for making marks to represent light and shade. Abstract. Seeing things more as they are, less as they appear to be. Stand back from nature and you see the appearance of trees, grass, human figures and so on. You see objects you can comfortably name, categorise and forget about. Now look closer. Up close and intimate, everything in nature is a field of pattern, texture, colour, light and dark. Nothing is solid or certain. Nothing stays still. Pulsing and shifting, the whole field is in constant motion and change. Beauty. Recognising your own highest potential in what you see. From Artist Statement, Urban Art Binge exhibition Dec 2012.
